Sandy Christian Youth Marimba Band

	back to schedule *Youth / Faith / Love / Miracles* Approximately 10 years ago, Scott Lazenby formed the first group of marimba band musicians of mainly highschoolers and a few older middle schoolers. They hand-crafted all six of the marimbas that are still in use today, the same marimbas that have been to such places as Africa and Mexico. Over the years, standing members have graduated high school and left for college, retiring from the group, passing their knowledge and musical rolls in songs to the others as they would in turn teach new comers who had auditioned and shown an interest.
The marimba band is currently completing its third full cycle, meaning that all the original members, and all the members that have been taught by original members will have retired by the end of this year. Scott Lazenby also has retired as leader a few years ago. After a few adults stepped up and left as director over a period of 6 months or so, Brandon Scarth, an original member, returned to lead the marimba band, only during his first year of direction, was in a near fatal car accident that left the entire community in shock. However, with love for Brandon, the band continued with myself, Ryan Callahan, leading the band in hopes of raising money to help support Brandon's medical costs. One miracle which we were very happy to take part in was performing last fall at Spirit on the Mountain, which raised an astonishing amount of donations for Brandon and his family. After just over a year, I am very pleased to say that Brandon is actively still a member of the band and has rejoined as a member. We are ecstatic and blessed to have our brother and dear friend with us once again, praising God for his greatest miracle that I have yet to witness in my life. We are excited to return with Brandon this year and can't wait to perform!
